Below that at the corner of Lili’uokalanai Ave. Momosan and Morimoto Asia by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto on Kalakaua Avenue, facing Waikiki BeachĪnyways, back to ‘Alohilani’s new digs, on the second floor makai-side facing Waikiki beach, gone is 24-hour Fitness, in its place pan-pacific restaurant Morimoto Asia by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto.

Place the O Bar’s bar against the 2nd floor ledge overlooking The Oceanarium, so that when sitting at the bar, you’re facing directly towards the top level windows of the aquarium! That’s taking it to the next level both figuratively and literally! Have that going most of the time, unless there’s some big sports game, where they can switch it back and forth between the live feed of the adjoining fish tank and various sports channels. Using underwater GoPro cameras mounted at various angles within the tank, arrange it so there’s a surrounding effect on the multiple video screens. What would be way cool, is at the upstairs O Bar, mount giant HDTVs all around the inside perimeter walls, streaming live HD video of the Oceanarium tank. The Oceanarium could then serve as the hotel’s breakfast buffet restaurant from 6-10am, then after that convert to brunch, then dinner, daily. Well come to think of it, looking at the layout, if they were to actually bring back The Oceanarium Restaurant, what they could do is move the O Bar upstairs where Lychee is, which would work out perfect.
Well, in its place now is Lychee, a breakfast buffet restaurant open from 6am to 10am only. Also up on the 5th floor pool deck is the Monkeypod Kids’ Club, that offers treasure hunting, craft making and other Hawaiian cultural learning activities. There, along with the original swimming pool (that’s been modified to be kid-friendly), they’ve also added an adults-only infinity pool with adjoining hot tub, surrounded by a plethora of comfy lounge chairs and swank cabanas.
Speaking of having enough bars, moving along to more renovations and changes they’ve made since becoming ‘Alohilani Resort, there’s Swell Bar on the 5th floor pool deck. That would suck! Thankfully they haven’t, as there’s already more than enough bars in Waikiki! What we need are more cool concept restaurants for everyone to enjoy like The Oceanarium was! the tank when I visited, there were a variety of smaller reef fish swimming the lower areas, such as tangs, surgeons and triggers, while on the top near the surface were some pretty big Awa (Milkfish). Yes, the O Bar has replaced The Oceanarium Restaurant, yet it retains the gigantic 3-story tall 280,000 gallon salt water aquarium, which interestingly that itself they’ve named ‘Oceanarium’. O Bar at the ‘Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach, opened February 2018, replaces The Oceanarium Restaurant According to several staff I spoke with recently at the still new O Bar, ever since they opened, both returning visitors and locals alike come in every single day, throughout the day asking, “What happened to The Oceanarium Restaurant?! Is this it now?” However, apparently the news hasn’t got out to everyone. Since February of this year, the former Pacific Beach Hotel reopened as the ‘Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach, with a complete facelift and all new set of business tenants.
